All About My Dog
いぬ の えいが
Japan Entertainment Farm (C) 2004

Pochi (ポチ)is a homeless Chiba dog (Chiba ken or Chiba inu) that meets a little weak boy (Yamada-kun) in an open field.

One day, Yamada-kun
(山田君) buys a piece of an(ko)-pan (anko = red bean custard, pan = bread) at a panya (pan = bread, ya = store) across an open field.

Ready to enjoy his anpan, Yamada-kun meets this little Chiba-ken dog who finally ends up enjoying the anpan. After this, Yamada-kun and Poch
i become best friends.

From the store, the daughter of the panya owner could see Yamada-kun and Pochi play catch ball. Fond of anko-pan, Yamada-kun and Pochi go to the panya to buy one anpan. But the little girl gives them 2 pieces instead: one for Yamada-kun and one for Pochi.

To thank the little girl, Pochi & Yamada-kun make a little drawing titled: ワンコパン

(WAN-KO-PAN instead of AN-(KO)-PAN, :) he, he)

(WAN = ワン= Japanese onomatopoeia of a dog's bark, KO=from AN-KO, PAN = bread)

The little girl replied with a beautiful drawing of Yamada-kun and Pochi..

Suddenly an unpredictable event broke Pochi and Yamada-kun apart. Yamada-kun is taken to a hospital. Pochi determined to find Yamada-kun, began a journey on his own.

Finally, Pochi arrived to the hospital, but he was a day too late. Yamada kun had gone home already.

However, Pochi waited by the entrance of the hospital day after day, week after week, month after month, season after season, just waiting for Yamada-kun to come for him.

The seasons become years until one rainy night, Pochi thought he saw Yamada kun come back for him. This was the moment Pochi had been waiting for so long.

Pochi left the next day. He never saw Yamada kun from that sad day they broke apart..

This clip of "いぬのえいが”(INU NO EIGA) is so powerful and emotional that many of us for sure shed tears.

Pochi, you are the best dog. We all love you. I want to have a dog like you.

Note: Thanks to Kazuko for telling me Anko-pan is called Anpan!
